ANOTHER PODIUM FOR BLANCHARD IN THE UK
20 October 2008

The podium finishes just keep on coming for Tim Blanchard, the young Aussie notched up third place at the British Formula Ford festival at Brands Hatch at the weekend to add to his second place Championship finish last week.

Backed by Jaylec and the Australian Motorsport Foundation (AMSF) the ever consistent Blanchard was second in his qualifying heat, but had to work hard for further speed in the final as he lacked some pace in the opener.

"While I was second in my heat, we had to change some things up a little because I was probably in the slower of the two heats and was a bit off the pace in comparison." explained Blanchard.

Close work with his Jamun Racing crew paid off and Blanchard battled with fellow Australian Nick Percat for third position in the final, eventually crossing the finish line in third to round out an ultra impressive year for the 20 year old Victorian.

"Moving to the UK wasn't easy to do so I'd like to thank Jamun Racing for the year and without Jaylec and the AMSF I wouldn't have been able to achieve these great results."

"To be on the podium at the festival finishes off the year on a very good note, and I'm really looking forward to another new challenge next year."

"Second in the Championship was a very pleasing result after all the hard work we put in during the year, and to back it up at the festival with another podium on a big stage at a circuit like Brands Hatch is very rewarding."

"Racing in Europe has given me some invaluable experience, the racing is of the highest quality on some of the best tracks in the world and I've learnt so much."

"I have got some experience here now so I'd like to continue to race in Europe if I can as I feel I can really step up and takes things to the next level."

"Hopefully I can secure further funding and can continue to race in the UK next year in the British F3 Championship."

Blanchard's days in a Formula Ford come to an end with an Australian title and podium finishes in the UK Championship and festival to his name.

Blanchard's results have him keeping some very impressive company when it comes to other Australian drivers taking the plunge and heading to the UK and the Formula Ford category.

Winners of the festival include current Formula 1 star Mark Webber (1996) and V8 Supecar driver and former Champion Russell Ingall (1993), while current V8 Supercar star James Courtney was a runner up in 1999.

"The aim was to head to Europe for experience and to really broaden my knowledge and just continue to learn as much as I could, so to end up with podium results in the Championship and the Festival is very rewarding," said Blanchard.

"Some very successful Australian drivers have done well over in British Formula Ford so I can only strive to try and be just as successful."
