BLANCHARD THROWS DOWN THE CHALLENGE

Jamun Racing driver, Australian Tim Blanchard has
thrown down the gauntlet in the British Formula Ford Championship with
a stunning weekend of racing at Silverstone.
Sitting in second position on the Championship table leading into the
round, Blanchard has cut the margin to just 36 points in the race for
the title with one weekend of racing remaining; Blanchard's team mate
Wayne Boyd is the current Championship leader but had his lead shortened
considerably at Silverstone after Blanchard claimed pole and a race win.
Blanchard put his Jaylec Mygale on pole for both races with a brilliant
qualifying performance that placed the pressure on Boyd from the outset
as the young Victorian sets his sights on the Championship with three
races remaining.
With second place locked away and guaranteed no matter what the outcome
in the remaining races of the season, Blanchard has nothing to lose and
everything to gain leading into the final weekend's racing at Donington
Park in October.
Qualifying was where it all started for Blanchard at Silverstone; two
quality fast laps early on secured him pole position for both races as
he went about keeping his title chances alive.
"The car was perfect during qualifying, I found some clear track
and put in two laps early that gained me pole position so I was confident
from the get go which out me in a good frame of mind for the races,"
explained Blanchard.
Race one was a perfect set of circumstances for Blanchard, an ideal start
allowed the AMSF International Rising Star to open up a two second gap
as his rivals battled for second position.
He eventually crossed three seconds ahead of team mate Victor Correa,
claiming his third win of the season and improving the gap to Boyd in
a big way.
"That was a very satisfying win, we were quick from the outset and
to get that win first up was exactly what I needed, it at least put some
pressure on Boyd and to give myself some chance of claiming the title
is exactly what I was after."
Blanchard settled for third place after an uncharacteristic slow start
to the weekend's second race where he fell back to fifth position; the
young gun was able to claim the race lead again on lap four but wasn't
able to hold out Marco Sorensen who took the race win.
"I thought I was on track for two wins from two when I got the lead
back, but Sorensen had really good speed it that final race; overall it
was such a good weekend for me though.
"It's a big task ahead to try and win the Championship and I need
things to go my way, but if I can claim pole and a couple of race wins
I give myself a chance at Donington.
"Wayne has been a great team mate and hard to catch all year but
I will put in a big training effort with a bit of a break in between rounds
and prepare very well.
"I have everything to gain and while I'm still a chance of claiming
the title I will be giving everything to do so."
The final three races will be held at Donington Park on 11-12 October.
