| news BLANCHARD CONSISTENT AT BRANDS HATCH 5 May 2008
Heading into the weekend’s racing at Brands Hatch, the AMSF International Rising Star was keen to consolidate his Championship standing and soak up the atmosphere at one the world’s most famous race tracks. “Having the opportunity to race at Brands Hatch was just a fantastic occasion for me, and having not raced there before it was important to get things right first up and finish the weekend still in second place on the points table,” explained Blanchard. Qualifying sixth for the opening race, the young Victorian felt he had the pace to be higher on the grid and proved so in the opening race making up two positions to finish fourth and start race two from fourth on the grid. “Realistically I hadn’t raced here before, so I wasn’t going to get ahead of myself and try and do anything out of the ordinary. “Once I had some extended track time I felt a lot more comfortable, I had a really tough battle with Linton Stuteley in the opening race and ended up fourth.” Blanchard secured fourth in the weekend’s final race and again extended his lead over third placed Stuteley in the Championship to 50 points. “After four events it’s great to be sitting second, it’s been a fantastic opportunity to come over to the UK and I am learning every time I am out on the track. “Obviously my team mate Wayne Boyd has set the benchmark, but if I can keep up my consistency there is no reason I can’t have a crack at winning the Championship so we will see how the rest of the year pans out,” said Blanchard. Blanchard sets off to Monaco later this week, a trip to the historic Grand Prix a week prior to the Formula One event in a search for some extra budget in 2009 as he contemplates a move into Formula 3 next year. “My main focus is the British Formula Ford Championship this year, but I do need to start looking at 2009 and beyond so this will be a great opportunity to do some networking." The Bristish Formula Ford Championship continues later this month with racing at Rockingham on 26 May. |
