Tim Blanchard on track despite long gap in Fujitsu V8 Supercar calendar
The 2011 Fujitsu V8 Supercar Championship is currently in a long break between the Perth round on May 1st until the Townsville round in early July. For many drivers in the Development Category it is a lot of down time. For Tim Blanchard however days at race tracks continue un abated.
First up was a very productive test session at Winton Motor Raceway with Kelly Racing in mid May. This was a very important day as all four Kelly Racing V8 Supercars were on hand with a number of the co drivers gaining valuable mileage. Tim ran a number of solid laps and provided feedback to race engineer of the #16 Stratco Commodore James Small. Test days are very limited in the V8 Supercar Championship so the teams strive to work through a full program with drivers and mechanics to ensure progress on the development of the car.
‘It was a good day overall and really helps to get to know the crew and how the team work together. David (Reynolds) and I have a good feeling already for the car and we are looking at very similar seating positions and car set ups.’ Tim commented after the test.
Not content with the Kelly Racing test day, Tim was also part of the team for a sponsor day at Phillip Island recently as Kelly’s put through a number of guests in the Pepsi V8 Supercar and ran some driving clinics.
And so to this weekend where Tim is in Darwin as the guest drier in the V8 Ute Championship. In 2010 Tim drove the Samboy Commodore on the Gold Coast and was pleased to be asked to pilot the #18 Auto One Wildcard entry. As soon as he returns from Darwin it is back to business in the Jayco #27 Falcon as MWR will run a major test at Winton next week.
