tim's travel tales

May 23, 2008
In the last few weeks I have experienced some of the best race tracks in the world. We have raced at Brands Hatch, tested at Spa Francorchamps in Belgium and attended Historic Monaco.

Our races at Brands Hatch included rounds 10 and 11. Although we scored some good points, it was a slightly disappointing weekend. Brands Hatch GP is a really cool track, very fast and flowing. From the beginning of the weekend we were behind the eight ball as we were not able to test there before the race meeting. We were able to qualify 6th while not fantastic it was still a good enough starting position to get onto the podium.

Race 1 we managed to work our way up to 4th and then had a really close battle with Linton Stutley for the final podium position but were unable to find a way past. Race 2 again was a close race as we moved up to 4th and then had another close battle with Adrian Campfield for the final podium position again coming home in 4th.

We have just returned from testing at Spa Francorchamps in Belgium. Eau Rouge is well known for being one of the toughest corners in the world and having now driven it, I have to agree. Every time you come up to Eau Rouge you have to take a big breath and hold on. It was not one of those very fast corners you can take flat out once you get some confidence as every time you come to the corner you seem to have a big lift even though you tell yourself not to.

Two weeks ago my Grandfather was in town and we were able to head off to Nice and Monaco in France. We stayed in Nice which had a really beautiful beach line but spent most of our time in Monaco as there was a Historic race meeting on the world famous track. We got to see some of the all time great Formula 1 cars previously driven by drivers such as Niki Lauda, Chris Amon, James Hunt and Alan Jones just to name a few, take one of the most demanding circuits in the world.

The race track itself is far narrower than it seems on TV, which immediately gives you far more respect for the drivers that manage to drive a F1 car flat out around there.

This weekend we are contesting the next three rounds of the British Formula Ford Championship at Rockingham which will once again see an opportunity for to get some more race wins on the board!!!
