tim's travel tales

August 12, 2008
The last few weeks have been a bit quiet on the racing front. Since Spa we have only raced in Brands Hatch. We struggled a little earlier in the year when we raced at Brands Hatch but we were hoping that having some more track knowledge would ensure that we were closer to the pace this time around.

Unfortunately that was not the case and we struggled with oversteer for most of the weekend. Qualifying demonstrated best that we have not got our heads around the Brands Grand Prix circuit as we could only manage 6th for race 1 and 10th for race 2.

Race 1 saw some track conditions that suited us very well and with some carnage up the front that enabled us to work our way up to 2nd , which was a bit of a relief to get a decent point haul especially when my championship rival Wayne Boyd got caught up in some incidents!! Race 2 was always going to be tough starting from 10th and unfortunately it was very difficult to improve on that as we could only manage 7th.

In the weeks off I have taken the opportunity to do some travel around Europe. Some mates from school back in Australia were able to join me in these travels where we have learnt about many different cultures and lifestyles to what we are used to in Australia.

On our travels we were able to visit Lille, Brussels, Brugge, Amsterdam, Antwerp, Barcelona, Valencia and Ibiza!!! I think our favourite city so far has been Brugge; although not a big city it is very clean and lots of fun and Belgium beers are something you need to experience…

Last week I was also given the opportunity to test a Fortec Motorsport Formula 3 car which was an unreal experience! Racing British Formula 3 has always been the dream for me as they are awesome cars to drive and you can really compare yourself in British Formula 3 against some of the best drivers in the world; so testing with Fortec meant I was one step closer to that dream!

The cars have amazing grip and therefore the forces on the body are quite a bit higher than Formula Ford; let’s just say by the end of the day my neck was feeling fairly second hand… Now I have driven one of these awesome cars I really want to organise a drive for next year in one because I think it would be a great opportunity to show what I am capable of!!!

This weekend we are racing at Silverstone which will hopefully bring some better results than Brands Hatch by closing that gap to the Championship lead!!!

Cheers
Tim
