tim's travel tales

Silverstone was just the weekend we needed! It was almost a perfect weekend with two pole positions, a race win and the only blemish on the weekend was 2nd in race two. Friday practise we were slightly off the pace but knowing this was our last chance to make a fight out of this championship we made some overnight changes before qualifying which proved beneficial as we managed to pump three quick laps. These three laps put us on pole for both races while being able to park the car early in the session to save our tyres for the Sunday races.

Sunday mornings race provided an opportunity to prove that I have the pace to simply drive away from the field in dry conditions as both my wins so far this year have been in the wet and that’s exactly what we did.

I managed to get a good start and put my head down for the first two laps building a two second lead which I then worked up to three seconds before maintaining the gap back to second to the end of the race. It was great to win on a track with so much history behind it as well as take a good chunk out of Wayne Boyd’s championship lead.

Race two was slightly disappointing as we weren’t able to complete the perfect weekend but the main thing was we beat Wayne Boyd again to close the championship fight some more. After a disastrous start and then some desperate driving to get back to the front we found ourselves leading again a few laps into the race. Unfortunately Marco Sorenson had improved as the weekend went on and was able to overrun us, opening up a gap which we could not close.

Donnington Park will host the final round of the championship and with second in the championship in the bag, we will be going out to win some more races and if a few things go our way there is a chance we could still win the championship which was the goal for the year!

The week after is the Formula Ford Festival which means October could be one of the biggest months of my career as I try to emulate some of Australia’s best drivers James Courtney (2001 British Formula Ford Champion) and Mark Webber (1996 Formula Ford Festival Winner).

I am planning on returning to Australia in early November and have started to make a list of things I am going to do in my first few days back home…

• Have a cold glass of Milo
• Go to the pub for a Chicken Parma
• Try a VB and then throw it out as it doesn’t compare to Belgium Beers
• Go to the beach
• Try and catch up on Neighbours as the UK is 3 or so months behind…
• Cook a BBQ (without shrimps) to ensure I haven’t lost the skill
• Watch a replay of Bathurst and the AFL Grand Final

That is all I have so far but I am working on it!!!

Cheers,
Tim
